Quick Janazah Prayer Guide
The Janazah prayer is prayed standing. There is no ruku and no sujud. Follow the Imam.

First Takbeer:
Say Allahu Akbar, then recite quietly:
Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika... -
Second Takbeer:
Say Allahu Akbar, then send salawat on the Prophet ﷺ.
Allahumma salli ala Muhammad... - Third Takbeer: Say Allahu Akbar, then make dua for Malake.
- Fourth Takbeer: Say Allahu Akbar, pause briefly, then follow the Imam in Salaam.
If you are unsure, simply stand with the congregation and follow the Imam.
Dua for Malake
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهَا وَارْحَمْهَا وَعَافِهَا وَاعْفُ عَنْهَا
Allahummaghfir laha warhamha wa ‘afiha wa‘fu ‘anha.
O Allah, forgive her, have mercy on her, grant her wellbeing, and pardon her.
اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْهَا الْجَنَّةَ وَأَعِذْهَا مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ
O Allah, admit her into Jannah and protect her from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
What to Say
أَعْظَمَ اللَّهُ أَجْرَكُمْ، وَأَحْسَنَ عَزَاءَكُمْ، وَغَفَرَ لِمَيِّتِكُمْ
A‘dhamallahu ajrakum, wa ahsana ‘aza’akum, wa ghafara limayyitikum.
May Allah increase your reward, comfort you beautifully, and forgive your deceased.
Simple phrases
- Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un.
- Allah yerhamha.
- May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus.
- May Allah give your family sabr and strength.
- We are making dua for her and for your family.
Attending Etiquette
- Arrive with wudu if possible.
- Be quiet and respectful.
- Keep your visit brief if the family is busy.
- Make dua for Malake and her family.
- Avoid loud conversations, joking, or unnecessary photos.
