Three days after the burialQuick Janazah Prayer Guide
The Janazah prayer is prayed standing. There is no ruku and no sujud. Follow the Imam.
- First Takbeer: Raise your hands and say Allahu Akbar, then recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah quietly.

Second Takbeer:
Say Allahu Akbar, then send salawat on the Prophet ﷺ,
as you do in tashahhud.
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Muhammad... -
Third Takbeer:
Say Allahu Akbar, then make dua for Malake.
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهَا وَارْحَمْهَا وَعَافِهَا وَاعْفُ عَنْهَا
Allahummaghfir laha warhamha wa ‘afiha wa‘fu ‘anha.
O Allah, forgive her, have mercy on her, grant her safety and wellbeing, and pardon her.

Fourth Takbeer:
Say Allahu Akbar. You may make a brief dua, then follow
the Imam in salam.
اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهَا وَلَا تَفْتِنَّا بَعْدَهَا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهَا
Allahumma la tahrimna ajraha wa la taftinna ba‘daha, waghfir lana wa laha.
O Allah, do not deprive us of her reward, do not test us after her, and forgive us and her.
End the Prayer
End with one tasleem to the right:
As-salamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullah.
Some details can differ by madhhab and local practice, especially raising the hands after later takbeers. If you are unsure, simply stand with the congregation and follow the Imam.
Dua for Malake
Allahummaghfir laha warhamha wa ‘afiha wa‘fu ‘anha.
O Allah, forgive her, have mercy on her, grant her wellbeing, and pardon her.
Allaahumma adkhil-haa al-jannah, wa a‘idh-haa min ‘adhaab al-qabr, wa min ‘adhaab an-naar.
O Allah, admit her into Jannah and protect her from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.
What to Say
A‘dhamallahu ajrakum, wa ahsana ‘aza’akum, wa ghafara limayyitikum.
May Allah increase your reward, comfort you beautifully, and forgive your deceased.
Simple phrases
- Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji‘un.
- Allah yerhamha.
- May Allah grant her Jannatul Firdaus.
- May Allah give your family sabr and strength.
- We are making dua for her and for your family.
Attending Etiquette
- Arrive with wudu if possible.
- Be quiet and respectful.
- Keep your visit brief if the family is busy.
- Make dua for Malake and her family.
- Avoid loud conversations, joking, or unnecessary photos.
